Notaries in Illinois cannot certify copies of public records (e.g., birth or death certificates), but we can assist with verifying copies of original personal or private documents for general use.

  • Signer Presence Required: Under Illinois law, the signer must personally appear before the Notary at the time of notarization. No exceptions.

  • Valid Identification: All signers must present valid, government-issued photo ID unless personally known to the Notary.

  • Remote Online Notarization (RON): As of 2022, Remote Online Notarization is permitted in Illinois for registered Notaries. Please inquire if this is needed.

  • Refusal of Service: A Notary may legally refuse to notarize if the document is incomplete, the signer appears unaware, or coercion is suspected.
